This
Negril landmark is located at the South
Negril point on the western end of the island
and affords the visitor willing to climb to
the top a breathtaking view.
The
French built the lighthouse in 1894 and
the tower is 66 feet above the ground level
and the light is elevated 100 feet above
sea level. The walls are three feet thick.
The light flashes every two second and can
be seen for approximately 10 miles. The
light was originally fueled by kerosene
and then by gas although solar energy has
been used since 1985.
